Mangroves, Reef, Natural Pool & Pure Caribbean Nature — Punta Cana's Best Eco Experience
The Caribbean Without the Crowds
The Eco Tour Punta Cana is designed for travelers who want to experience the Dominican Republic’s natural ecosystems rather than just its beaches. This full-day combination takes you through the mangrove waterways, onto the coral reef, and out to the Natural Pool — three completely different natural environments, each with its own extraordinary character. It’s the most complete nature immersion available from Punta Cana.
Mangrove Kayaking
The mangrove kayaking section takes you into the intricate, protected waterways that line the inner coast of the Bávaro area. These ecosystems are teeming with marine life — juvenile fish, crabs, birds, and the complex root systems that make mangroves one of the most ecologically important habitats in the Caribbean. The kayaking is calm and accessible, and the silence inside the mangroves — broken only by water and wildlife — is a world away from the resort beach just minutes away.
Reef Snorkeling and the Natural Pool
After the mangroves, the tour moves to the open water for a guided snorkeling session above the Bávaro reef, followed by the signature Natural Pool stop — the legendary Caribbean sandbank where the water is turquoise, the sand is white, and the horizon stretches endlessly in every direction. Three ecosystems, one day, one extraordinary experience.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need kayaking experience for the mangrove section?
A: No experience needed. The mangrove waterways are calm, sheltered, and ideal for beginners. Your guide provides brief paddling instructions before you enter the water and accompanies the group throughout. Children from age 5 can paddle with an adult in a double kayak.
Q: Why is reef-safe sunscreen important for this tour?
A: The Eco Tour visits sensitive natural ecosystems — mangroves and coral reef — that are directly harmed by chemical compounds found in standard sunscreens, particularly oxybenzone and octinoxate. Reef-safe, biodegradable sunscreen protects both your skin and the natural environments you’re visiting. Please apply reef-safe sunscreen before this tour.
Q: Is the Eco Tour suitable for non-swimmers?
A: The kayaking section requires no swimming ability. The snorkeling and Natural Pool stops are in calm, shallow water, and life vests are available throughout. The Natural Pool is waist-deep, making it accessible for guests who are not comfortable swimming in deeper water.
Q: What wildlife can we expect to see on the Eco Tour?
A: The mangroves are home to various bird species, including herons, egrets, and frigatebirds, as well as crabs, small fish, and invertebrates. The reef typically offers sightings of tropical fish, parrotfish, angelfish, sergeant majors, and sea fans. Sea turtle sightings occur occasionally at the reef — never guaranteed but genuinely possible.
