Group of tourists on a horseback riding tour along the pristine shore of Playa Esmeralda near Montaña Redonda

Ride to the Summit. Gallop Along the Shore. The Dominican Republic at Its Most Dramatic.

There’s a hilltop in the Dominican Republic where the land simply runs out, and the Caribbean drops away on all sides. No railings. No gift shops. Just swings, hammocks, and a 360-degree view that has made Montaña Redonda one of the most shared destinations on social media in the entire region. Combine that with a horseback ride along a deserted Caribbean beach, and you have one of the best days available in Punta Cana — full stop.

What Happens on the Tour

After hotel pickup, you head east toward the Miches region — a part of the Dominican Republic that most tourists never reach. The landscape changes quickly as you leave the resort zone behind: coconut palms give way to rolling hills, local communities, and the dramatic coastline of El Seibo province.

The approach to Montaña Redonda involves a 4×4 vehicle ride up the hillside, followed by a short walk to the summit. As you crest the top, the view hits you all at once — the Atlantic on one side, the Caribbean on the other, coconut palms stretching to the horizon in every direction, and the famous swings and hammocks positioned perfectly at the edge of the world. Take as many photos as you need. This is worth it.

From the summit, the tour continues to the shores of Playa Esmeralda — a near-deserted, pristine beach where your horses are waiting. The ride takes you along the surf line, through shallow water and soft sand, with the mountains behind you and the open sea ahead. No experience is necessary — the horses are calm, well-trained, and guided throughout. It’s the kind of experience that makes you wish you’d packed more days into your vacation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need horseback riding experience?

A: No experience is required. The horses used on this tour are calm, well-trained animals accustomed to carrying riders of all experience levels. Your guide leads the ride throughout and will match each rider with an appropriate horse. First-timers are very welcome and often end up being the most enthusiastic participants.

Q: Is Montaña Redonda far from Punta Cana?

A: Montaña Redonda is located near Miches, approximately 60–75 minutes from central Punta Cana by road. The drive itself passes through beautiful Dominican countryside and local communities, making it an interesting part of the experience. All transfers are included in the tour price.

Q: What is the best time of day to visit the summit?

A: Morning departures typically offer the clearest skies and most pleasant temperatures. The summit is open but exposed, so sun protection is essential at any time of day. We recommend bringing sunglasses and a hat in addition to sunscreen.

Q: Are the famous summit swings and hammocks included?

A: Yes. The swings and hammocks at the summit are part of the experience and are included in the tour. Your guide will help you position and photograph the most iconic shots from the edge of the summit — a safe, controlled experience that produces unforgettable images.
