Off-Road Jungle Trails, Dominican Village Stop & Wild Atlantic Beach
Macao Beach is not like the beach in front of your resort. There are no sunbeds, no waiters, no swim-up bars. There’s just the Atlantic Ocean hitting a long, wild stretch of Dominican coastline with a force that reminds you the sea is still the sea. Getting there in a 4×4 buggy through jungle trails and local villages makes the arrival even better.
This is the tour for people who want to see what the Dominican Republic actually looks like — the real countryside, the real villages, the real ocean. It’s one of the most raw and genuinely thrilling experiences we offer. And at US$73, it’s also one of the best-value adventures on the island.
What Happens on the Tour
After hotel pickup, you head to the buggy ranch where your guide gives you a safety briefing and pairs you with your vehicle. Buggies are available as solo or two-seater configurations. Helmets and goggles provided — you’ll need them.
The trail begins on a ranch access road and quickly evolves into full off-road territory: dusty paths through tropical forest, muddy creek crossings, rocky hillside climbs, and long flat sections where you can really open the throttle. Your guide leads the convoy and keeps the pace energetic but safe for all experience levels.
Midway through, the convoy stops at a local Dominican village for a short cultural break — a chance to step off the buggy, catch your breath, and experience something authentic. Then it’s back on the trail for the final push to Macao Beach.
The beach arrival is genuinely dramatic. After 90 minutes of dusty jungle trails, you park the buggy at the crest of a hill and walk down to one of the most powerful and beautiful beaches in the entire country. The waves are real. The sand is white. The sky is big. Spend your time here swimming, walking, or just staring at the Atlantic. You’ve earned it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need experience to drive the buggy?
A: No prior off-road experience is needed. If you can drive a basic car, you can drive this buggy. Your guide gives a full safety briefing before departure and leads the convoy at a pace that’s manageable for all skill levels. First-time buggy drivers regularly say it’s the best activity of their trip.
Q: Will I really get muddy?
A: Yes — and this is part of what makes the tour so memorable. The trails run through real off-road terrain that is often dusty and, depending on recent rainfall, genuinely muddy. Wear clothes you are comfortable getting dirty. Many guests wear their oldest clothes specifically for this tour and leave them at the ranch.
Q: What is Macao Beach like compared to Bávaro?
A: Macao Beach is on the Atlantic side of Punta Cana, which means the waves are larger and more powerful than the calm resort beaches of Bávaro. It’s a wilder, less developed stretch of coastline with no hotel facilities — which is precisely what makes it beautiful. Swimming is possible, but be aware of the surf conditions.
Q: Can passengers ride in the buggy without driving?
A: Yes. Each buggy accommodates a driver and one passenger. Passengers of any age 5 and up can ride. If your group has a mix of drivers and non-drivers, we can arrange the convoy so everyone gets a great experience.
